Three Bean and Yuengling Lager Chili

I went to make chili today and realized I was missing a few of my standard ingredients. Well that never stopped me before; So I decided to play in the kitchen while the children slept. What I ended up with was a new chili recipe!

Here it is. Hope you like it as much as my family did.

Serves: A lot :)

Food Stuffs:
2 Large onions
2lbs Ground turkey or ground beef
1Cup dried large Lima beans
1 Cup dried black beans
1 Cup chick peas
2 Large cans of kidney beans (drain one)
2-6oz cans of tomato paste
1 Bottle Yuegling Lager
Cumin, Chili powder, old bay, bay leaves, salt, garlic, onion powder, celery seeds and crushed red pepper flakes.

Prepare your the dry beans so that they are soft and ready to use.

Chop and brown the onions. Add ground turkey, cook through. Next add cans of tomato paste and beans.
Reduce heat to low and let simmer.
I didn’t really measure the seasoning very well. Sorry, I forget to do that sometimes. But here is an estimation of what I used:
Cumin: 2 tsp
Chili Powder: 1/2 cup
Old Bay: 3TBS
Bay Leaves: 2 large
Sea Salt: 2 TBS
Garlic: 3 heaping TBS fresh chopped and 1 TBS garlic powder
Onion Powder: 1TBS
Celery Seed: 1 tsp
Crushed Red Pepper: 1 Tsp or more to taste
4 Beef Bouillon cubes

Once you have all your seasonings in and melding, add 4 cups of water and one bottle of Yuengling larger. Stir and let simmer for 2 hours. Adjust the seasonings to your taste…I played with my spices a lot, so don’t be bashful.  I served mine over homemade french bread croutons  with an added a dollop of sour cream and shredded Colby Jack cheese.

*Croutons: 1 Stick melted butter, 1/4c olive oil, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp salt, 2 tsp oregano, 1 loaf cubed french bread. Mix all ingredients in a bowl. Spread over a baking sheet and bake at 425o till they are nice and crispy*

This would also be super yummy served inside a crusty Asiago Cheese bowl. You can find round loaves of Asiago Cheese bread at your local bakery. Simply hollow out the center, brush with olive oil and brown in the oven.  Once the bread bowls come out of the oven, scoop chili in and add toppings!

I know this is Wine Optional, but I recommend serving this with a ice cold Yuengling Lager – my favorite beer!

  2. Kristy, I would think that you could. You’re really just wanting the flavor, so I cannot think of a good reason it would make any difference. Please let me and my readers know how it turns out.
